Amber Alerts

Printer-friendly VersionPrinter-friendly Version
The Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT) has put its grassroots roster of members to work for the Amber Alert Network, a program to alert the public of missing children.  IBAT members are encouraged to make available the services of the banks’ electronic message systems and lobby and drive-through facilities to alert the public when an Amber alert is issued.

The Amber Alert concept originated in Texas after nine-year-old Amber Hagerman was kidnapped from her Arlington home in 1996 and murdered.  A neighbor was able to provide details of a car believed to be involved in the abduction, but there was not a system in place to get that information to the public quickly.
