Question:  With all of the technological changes, do banks still need to check endorsements on checks?

 

Answer:  NO!  The depository bank is responsible for warranting that signatures are genuine.  I recommend that banks have procedures to check deposits to make sure that the endorsements have been properly made.  But payor banks can rely on the fact that the depository bank has the right to transfer simply through possession--even without endorsement!
