Question:  We want to offer an incentive for a new account program but don't want it to be a "bonus" under Reg DD or reportable to IRS.  What are our limits?

Answer:  $10.  But remember that waiver or reduction of a fee or absorption of expenses doesn't count.  So a free safe deposit box or traveler's checks would not be included in the definition of bonus.  Also, bonuses do not include discount coupons for goods or services at restaurants or stores.

Get a little creative.  If you still have a gross of coffee cups with the bank's logo on them, stuff the cup with coupons for a local coffee house.
