Question:  A candidate for the Texas legislature is a customer of the bank.  She has come in for a loan for her campaign.  Does that raise any legal questions?

 

Answer:  This is permitted under the Texas election laws, provided that the loan is on normal terms and conditions and rates.  If you gave a favorable interest rate or terms, then that could be construed as an in-kind contribution.  So handle this at arms length and you are okay.
