Servicemembers Civil Relief

Question:  A local National Guard unit has been activated.  Our bank would like to help the dependents left behind understand their rights under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.  What can we do?

Answer:  First, typically the JAG Corp will provide information to the servicemembers.  Thus, the guards members have probably received some briefing.  However, their spouses may find themselves bewildered as time goes on.  There are several good sources of information.  The OCC published a brief synopsis for banks: http://www.occ.treas.gov/ftp/advisory/2004-8.doc  The FDIC has a one page description at http://www.fdic.gov/news/news/financial/2002/FIL02134.html.
