The Big 12 Governor’s Race
The 2010 Texas race for governor may make the UT-A&M Thanksgiving football game look like a child’s tea party. Former UT cheerleader and Texas US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison will take the field against former Aggie yell leader and current governor, Rick Perry.
The two quarterbacks have assembled their offensive and defensive teams and the game is on. Kay Bailey Hutchison recently kicked off her announcement tour and Rick Perry’s defense intercepted her at each stop trying to disrupt her game, making her fans call Perry for unsportsman-like conduct. It is already shaping up to be a very long game.
Perry’s team has thrown some passes that he wishes he could bring back. For example, remarks made in April, while misinterpreted, have secessionists calling on the Governor to secede from the union. Hutchison’s team intercepted the pass calling his remarks silly and hurtful to the Republican Party in Texas.
Reluctant referee Joe Straus, Speaker of the House of Representatives, is encouraging both teams to play fair and not alienate potential voters as he tries to maintain the fragile Republican majority in the House.
There are other bench warmers waiting for the opportunity to get in the game, but we’ll discuss them in a later edition.
From time to time we’ll be asking your opinion of some races in the 2010 election. So let’s get started. If the governor’s race were held today between Kay Bailey Hutchison and Rick Perry, who would get your vote? Click here to cast your vote and we’ll give you the results next week.
