2009 Leadership Conference Speaker

Many of us are so busy doing things the way we have always done them that we haven’t noticed when they do not work for us anymore.  G. Dan Lumpkin, CMC, is President of Lumpkin & Associates, a management consulting firm specializing in helping organizations deal with change and build cultures for survival in these fast moving times.

At this year’s Leadership Conference, in San Antonio, Dan will be talking about Earning the Right to Lead© and how to use The Power of Choice©.  Mr. Lumpkin will be speaking at the opening General Session, Thursday afternoon, at 3pm.

Earning the Right To Lead© is about the challenge of managing today’s worker.  Traditional management theories applied in today’s work environment often result in a very high frustration level for both worker and manager.   Dan talks about how to use The Power of Choice© to empower you in management situations.  The skills you will develop will allow you to have better communications with your employees and cultivate a more positive work climate for cooperation and production.

Dan Lumpkin is widely regarded as one of the current leaders speaking on change.  He is an international speaker and author, having presented to audiences of thousands in the United States, Mexico, Egypt, Puerto Rico, and Europe.  He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with degrees in psychology, sociology and human behavior.  Dan is also a Certified Management Consultant and Certified Reality Therapist.  His management skills span over thirty five years in various industries, including banking.

Mr. Lumpkin was chosen by the Chairman of the United States Army Senior Review Panel to facilitate their investigation of sexual harassment in the U. S. Army worldwide.  He also attended and advised the future leaders of the U. S. Army on national security issues at the Army War College’s National Security Seminar.  For ten years he has written a popular career advice and leadership column in the national trade publication Exhibitor magazine, called “Ask Dan.”

Making a Difference Nominations

MDIt’s that time of year to nominate that one special person in your bank who contributes above and beyond, not only in your bank but in your community.  The person who goes beyond the standard in character, attitude and performance.  The person who invests their personal time and effort in volunteer service to the community.

IBAT is currently accepting nominations for the 2009 Making a Difference Award and the Rising Star Award.  The Rising Star Award is specifically designed for those employees who have been with your bank five years or less, but who are already Making a Difference both in the bank and in the community.

The honorees, selected by our panel of judges, will receive their awards during the 35th Annual IBAT Convention, October 10-13, at the Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio.

Bank chairmen, presidents and CEOs are not eligible for this award.

Click here for more information and the nomination form:
Deadline for nominations is June 19.

Upcoming Webinar Demonstration of ChubbWorkssm
The Employment Practices Loss Control Tool Available to Chubb Policyholders

Expanding employment practices legislation and an increasingly litigious society means that lawsuits over employment matters pose a heightened danger to employers.  While nothing can eliminate the potential, Banks who have their Employment Practices Liability coverage through Chubb may access a free on-line resource known as ChubbWorkssm.  This tool is a critical component of Chubb’s Employment Practices Liability Loss Prevention Program and a means to reduce, if not prevent the costly possibility of an employment practices lawsuit.

Chubbworkssm   is available to current Chubb policyholders, but all are encouraged to join us for a Webinar / Demonstration of the product on Thursday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. CST.  Registration and dial-in information will be available on our website soon.

Simply follow these four steps:
1. Go to www.chubbworks.com. Click on “REGISTER.”
2. Enter your eight-digit Chubb EPL policy number.
3. At the prompt, verify that you are a Chubb EPL customer.
4. The screen will ask you to nominate yourself or another person in your organization as a site administrator.
a. If you are the site administrator: Complete the remaining pages, including the page that allows you to select a username and password.
b. If you are not the site administrator: You will be asked to nominate someone from your organization to administer the site. (Your nominated site administrator will need to know your organization’s Chubb EPL policy number to do so.)

On the Education Front

Financial Literacy Join us at the IBAT/TBA Financial Literacy Summit on July 21-22 at the Federal Reserve Bank Dallas.

You won’t want to miss our opening general session speaker:

How to Connect with others regardless of Age, Wage or Life Stage
Kelly McDonald

It’s getting harder and harder to connect with others because there are so many barriers to connection.  Technology is our friend, but also our enemy as we have more and more ways to filter out the information and communication we don’t want.  So in order to connect with someone, you must learn to tap into relevant belief, values or habits.   And that can be hard to do when someone is different from you.

This presentation will focus on key diverse market segments, emerging market segments, and how major companies are learning to penetrate these groups, either internally or as customer base expansion, to form deep and lasting connections.

Attendees will learn why diversity is a real opportunity – and how you can grow your relationships by better understanding your neighbors, co-workers, your customers and the community in which you live and work, today and tomorrow.

Legal Ease Question of the Week

Legal Ease QuestionQuestion: The local Economic Development Corporation has inquired as to whether the bank would obtain a consumer report on an applicant of EDC loan funding sources.  The EDC would obtain written authorization from the applicant authorizing the EDC to request & obtain the report from our Bank, authorizing our Bank to acquire the report from Experian, and authorizing our Bank to release the report to the EDC.  What are your thoughts?
