IBAT's Bottom Line June 15, 2009

FDIC Advisory Committee on Community Banking
The FDIC Board on May 29 approved the establishment of a focused advisory committee to address issues related to the unique needs of community banking. The FDIC is in the process of taking applications from interested bankers, and the deadline for submission is July 3. We applaud the Board's decision, as well as their recognition that community banking is indeed "different", and should not be treated in the same manner as the complex, high risk/low capital multi-state financial services conglomerates. If you have an interest in serving on this critical committee, we encourage you to apply. Further information may be found here http://www.fdic.gov/communitybanking/index.html
Community Bank Representation at Treasury?
As the federal government has attempted to address the economic crisis over the past year, it has become increasingly apparent that the Treasury has been less than responsive to the unique challenges facing community banking. Representative Dennis Cardoza (D-California), has introduced the Oversight for Community Financial Institutions Act of 2009 (H.R. 2676), which would create an assistant secretary of the Treasury specifically focused on community financial institutions. We believe this is a splendid idea, and have indeed already sent a letter to every member of the Texas Congressional delegation to ask that they cosponsor this bill.
We encourage you to contact your respective members of Congress, and urge them to cosponsor this important bill. You are welcome to write, email (contact information may be accessed here http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW_by_State.shtml#tx) or call 202/224-3121 and ask for your representative's office.

| “Turn New Accounts Into Loyal Customers – How effective onboarding can help cultivate new accounts and grow profits” For Financial Institutions, the process of onboarding new accounts is much more than just processing a new customer and setting up an account. It sets into motion a whole series of events and experiences that launches the relationship with that customer. In these uncertain times – when it’s so easy for customers to switch vendors – it’s more important than ever for you to maximize your onboarding “experience,” ensuring you are establishing strongly-rooted relationships with new accounts.

How to Connect with others regardless of Age, Wage or Life Stage
Kelly McDonald
It’s getting harder and harder to connect with others because there are so many barriers to connection. Technology is our friend, but also our enemy as we have more and more ways to filter out the information and communication we don’t want. So in order to connect with someone, you must learn to tap into relevant belief, values or habits. And that can be hard to do when someone is different from you.
This presentation will focus on key diverse market segments, emerging market segments, and how major companies are learning to penetrate these groups, either internally or as customer base expansion, to form deep and lasting connections.
Attendees will learn why diversity is a real opportunity – and how you can grow your relationships by better understanding your neighbors, co-workers, your customers and the community in which you live and work, today and tomorrow.
