IBAT Urges Grassroots Outreach on Deposit Insuarnce Bill

IBAT is encouraging our community bankers to ask their members of Congress to cosponsor legislation to broaden the assessment base for FDIC deposit insurance premiums and create a separate system-risk premium for too-big to fail banks.

The Bank Accountability and Risk Assessment Act of 2009 (H.R. 2897), spnosored by Luis Gutierrez, Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions, would require the deposit insurance assessment base to include total assets (minus tangible equity), rather than domestic deposits.

On the Education Front

Financial Literacy Join us at the IBAT/TBA Financial Literacy Summit on July 21-22 at the Federal Reserve Bank Dallas.

You won’t want to miss our opening general session speaker:

How to Connect with others regardless of Age, Wage or Life Stage
Kelly McDonald

It’s getting harder and harder to connect with others because there are so many barriers to connection.  Technology is our friend, but also our enemy as we have more and more ways to filter out the information and communication we don’t want.  So in order to connect with someone, you must learn to tap into relevant belief, values or habits.   And that can be hard to do when someone is different from you.

This presentation will focus on key diverse market segments, emerging market segments, and how major companies are learning to penetrate these groups, either internally or as customer base expansion, to form deep and lasting connections.

Attendees will learn why diversity is a real opportunity – and how you can grow your relationships by better understanding your neighbors, co-workers, your customers and the community in which you live and work, today and tomorrow.

Legal Ease Question of the Week

Legal Ease QuestionQuestion: Transaction Account Guarantee Program extended unlimited FDIC coverage on demand deposits thru 12/31/2009. Was the TAGP date extended when FDIC extended the $250,000 coverage thru 12/31/2013? We are completing the state depository application and it asks whether coverage on demand deposits is limited to $250,000 or unlimited; since the application is for a period thru 2011, my thinking is it is unlimited until 12/31/2009 and limited to 250,000 after that date unless the TAGP date was effected by the FDIC extension.

TechMecca Seeks Your Input

Plans are currently underway for TechMecca 2010 and IBAT is looking for eager participants to make their voices heard by providing valuable experience and expectation information. A quick survey has been composed to let IBAT know how to best meet participants’ technology and related marketing needs for this conference. The results will be compiled and used to evaluate what types of educational sessions you would most like to see.

The survey takes only a few minutes, and may be found here.  Questions pertaining to speakers and possible sessions you would like to see are asked with the chance to provide your own ideas for submission.

Do you have a “Rock Star” on your staff when it comes to areas related to dealing with the how to’s or challenges of technology? Do they like to speak and are they willing to provide information while learning from others? If so, this is precisely the type of response we need to hear.

TechMecca 2010 will take place Jan. 25-26, 2010, at the Renaissance Austin Hotel at the Arboretum. Information and registration options will be added to the IBAT website and the TechMecca website as the conference draws closer. Please do not hesitate to email Julie Courtney if you have any questions or concerns.

The Austin Money $how is a pilot program for consumers in Central Texas who are active, educated, homeowners, have one or more children and interested in better ways to manage their finances. This audience is asking many more questions since the economy turned upside down. This audience wants to know more about their investments in 401(k) plans, IRA's, how to better work with their local banker to maximize their money. IBAT is taking the story to the consumer with 33 workshops and 80 booths. Click here to learn more: www.austinmoneyshow.com

Meet the IBAT Staff

KHAs IBAT celebrates our 35th Anniversary this year, we wanted to introduce you to our staff.  Many of the staff you know already and some that you may not be as familiar with.  IBAT really is a family.  We laugh together…we cry together…we get on each other’s nerves.  But at the end of the day, we can always count on each other.

The IBAT family has 226 years of combined experience with the association.  We recently asked the staff to complete a fun questionnaire to give you a chance to get to know them better.  From now until the Annual IBAT Convention, we’ll be featuring them on the IBAT website.  Enjoy and welcome to our home.

Can you identify this staff member?
