Spotlight on Leadership: Marty Rivers

What's
something not many people know about you?
  I was born in
Iowa.

One
of your most proud moments?
Outside of my family and work... I
would have to say completing my first Olympic distance triathlon:  particularly when I swam almost one mile in
the lake and didn't drown.

How
did you earn your first dollar?
My first real job was as an
assistant swimming instructor at the public pool.  After that, it was on to Sonic as a car hop.

What
is one of your favorite books?
I really enjoyed reading the Hunger Games trilogy.  My kids encouraged me to read it.  There are so many underlying social issues... and
not too many big words.

Who
are your heroes?
I don't really have any heroes.  I draw inspiration from a lot of people for
different reasons:  courage under
difficult circumstances, leadership, athletic ability, etc.

Favorite
place to "get away"?
Pagosa Springs, Colorado in the
summer.

Name
one thing on your bucket list.
Travel to Italy.

Outside
of family and work, what's your passion?
I started
competing in triathlons about 18 months ago.

Advice
you would give a new employee in your bank.
Ask a lot
of questions... you might learn something.

One
thing I wish more people knew about community banking.
We
are the basically opposite of the TBTF banks.
I'm amazed at how many questions I get about all the stuff going on at
Wall Street.
