On the Hill
Here's the link to this week's Capitol Report.

Mark your calendars NOW for the IBAT Legislative Wrap-Up telephone conferences on July 6 and 7 from 8 to 9:30 a.m.  These informative programs by Karen Neeley and Steve Scurlock will provide you with the information you need to adapt to new laws, which go into effect September 1.  Remember that the telephone format allows as many persons as you can crowd around your speaker phone to attend at one low price!

Help Us Help You!
Write or call your congressman and ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 2061, The Communities First Act, by Congressman Jim Ryun of Kansas.  This proactive initiative is designed to help local financial institutions better serve the needs of their communities by providing regulatory relief and tax reform.  To learn more about the bill, check out the Communities First Act area of our web site.  (This is a members only section.)  Please let Steve Scurlock or Mae Beth Palone know if you receive a commitment from your congressman to co-sponsor HR 2061.

Legal Ease Question of the Week
Question:  We report our SARs (if any) to the Board of Directors at the monthly meeting.  But we are worried about confidentiality.  Help!  What should be in our minutes?  To find out the answer, click on the flashing question mark.  You can also check out our growing database of other Q&As!

On the Education Front
It’s not too soon to be making plans to attend the second Credit Risk Management Network program in Cambridge, Massachusetts, October 2, 3, and 4th.  This program is structured along the same lines as the CEO Affiliations and CEO Networks.  We have designed this forum for your experienced credit administration officers, loan review professionals, compliance officers, and bank attorneys as a method to stay on top of risk management issues confronting community bankers, specifically surrounding the loan portfolio.  The method of instruction is a combination of expert-led facilitation and peer-to-peer discussion.  The network is a subscription that includes two live meetings per year.
