Legal Ease Question of the Week
Question:  A new accounts person opened up an account for a check casher.  Our board is worried about the responsibilities with monitoring/due diligence and has decided NOT to have MSB accounts.  Can we close this account?  To find out the answer, click on the flashing question mark.  You can also check out our growing database of other Q&As!

From the Legal Department
One of the services of IBAT's Legal Department is to file Amicus Curiae (Friend of the Court) Briefs in those appellate cases which present legal issues with the potential of having a significant impact on the ways that the IBAT membership conduct their Business.  A good example is Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. v. Citizens Bank of Texas, which is on appeal in the Tenth Judicial District - Waco.  IBAT has filed a cogent and well-reasoned Amicus brief, urging the Court of Appeals to affirm the damages awarded by the trial court to Citizens National Bank for damages resulting from Wells Fargo's manipulating the timing of the presentment of checks in a correspondent banking relationship.  Click here for more information about the case.

Congratulations!
Just a couple of months after Dawson County was organized in March of 1905, Lamesa became the county seat and the citizens recognized the need for a financial institution.  A century later, The First National Bank of Lamesa, under the leadership of President and CEO Bob Brown, its directors and employees, is celebrating its 100th  Anniversary.  The IBAT Board of Directors and staff would like to congratulate The First National Bank of Lamesa on this important milestone for the citizens of the Lamesa community, Dawson County and the Texas community banking industry..
