H.R. 4777 attempts to address a growing problem with internet gambling (notice the bill number?), but unfortunately appears to put banks in yet another law enforcement mode - and dramatically increases regulatory burden.  Working in tandem with ICBA, we sent this letter to our Texas members of the House Judiciary Committee (Gohmert, Jackson Lee and Smith) this week.  If appropriate changes are not made in the bill language, we will be asking that you contact your Congressman to protest loudly as it moves through the process.  Please stay tuned.

After a very hectic and stressful week, it appears - at least at this writing - that there will indeed be a substantially different tax scheme in Texas in the coming years.  While there is some movement to provide a vehicle for amendments to the structure of HB 3, it appears highly unlikely at this time that such will occur.  It will be some time before the experts are able to sort all of this out.  In the meantime, we have made available additional information and a worksheet on this new tax structure.  This will obviously be a "hot topic" over the coming months, and we will attempt to keep you apprised.

“I attend the Leadership Conference for several reasons.  First, the IBAT staff insures that the highest quality presenters are available for educational and motivational measures.  Second, the opportunity of networking with your peers in a non-competitive environment allows the free exchange of thoughts and ideas that translate into better procedures and processes in my workplace.  Third, and possibly most important, is the ability to learn and interact in a family friendly environment.”

Registrations are still being accepted but hotel rooms are getting scarce!  Don’t wait any longer to register for the IBAT Leadership Conference.

IBAT would like to have a collage made of all the Texas independent banks’ lapel pins, to show our pride and diversity.  We would like to include your bank’s pin in a collage in the IBAT office.  We will display the pins in the shape of Texas and post pictures on the website for you to view.  Just attach it to one of your business cards and drop it in the mail to the IBAT office by June 1, 2006.
