This week some 35 Texas community bankers and IBAT staff traveled to Washington in connection with IBAT's Annual Congressional visit. Individual or group meetings were held with 17 Texas Congressmen and both Texas Senators.
IBAT was successful in obtaining additional co-sponsors for the ICBA/IBAT initiated Communities First Act (HR 2061/ S.1568), as well as lobbying members to sign on to Congressional efforts encouraging the FDIC to delay action on granting FDIC insurance approval to Wal-Mart until such time as Congress could study the ramifications of the charter application.
Members from Texas were greeted by the good news from the ICBA staff that the credit unions power grab bill, CURIA, was pronounced dead for this Congressional year and that a regulatory relief bill for community banks was possible this year.
ICBA and IBAT continue to make a difference for your franchise value in Washington, D.C. and Austin.
Special thanks to these sponsors for helping defray some of our expenses:

IBAT has partnered with the US Department of Treasury on the Simplify, EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System) program. Although this program has been around for 10 years, the Department is making a concerted effort to encourage small business owners to use this electronic system to pay their federal taxes. Instead of your customers bringing in their Federal Tax Deposit (FTD) coupons to the bank, they Can file them electronically, while freeing your bank staff to focus more on promoting other financial products and services.
