We pause today and the entire weekend to give thanks for living in the greatest Country in the world.  We celebrate the birth of our Nation and the freedoms we enjoy.

On behalf of the officers, directors and employees of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas, we wish you a safe and happy 4th of July!

Texas Heritage Bank in Boerne, Texas, along with First State Bank in Abernathy and Texas Heritage Bank in Cross Plains were feted with a Fajita Luncheon catered by IBAT Staff last Saturday at the Nelson City Dance Hall in Boerne Texas.  Texas Heritage Bank was this year’s winner in the Annual PAC Drive Contest.  Other than dodging a few raindrops, the guests enjoyed live music, good food, fellowship and a birthday cake honoring President and CEO Steve Mack of Texas Heritage Bank in Boerne.
Make plans next March to conduct a PAC Drive in your bank and Team IBAT Could Be Cookin' For You!

IBAT EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Teachers from 25 school districts and charter schools from around Texas attended an all-day financial education workshop on Wednesday June 28 to prepare for a financial literacy pilot program to begin in the fall in certain districts.
The workshop, conducted by the  Texas Education Agency (TEA), State Securities Board and Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner (OCCC), offered an opportunity for teachers to both learn the instructional materials and prepare for the pilot program.
The pilot program tested two programs - the Financial Literacy 2010 (known as FL2010) and the acclaimed FDIC Money Smart curricula - against the requirements of Senate Bill 851 by Sen. Shapleigh, D-El Paso. SB 851 requires the pilot program on financial literacy, which has been developed for 25 school districts across the state, to address financial criteria for specific topics.
The IBAT Education Foundation mission is to build financially literate communities across Texas. Toward this mission it is creating links for community bankers and local schools to work together with a common passion of financial education learned at early ages.
For details about the event, please contact Mary Lange at mlange@ibat.org.

Have you ever attended a seminar and said “That one thing that I learned saved our bank many times the cost of the seminar.”  The same thought can be applied to the 2006 Alliance of Independent Bankers Employee Benefits Survey!  But with the survey results, the possibility of savings can seem endless.  Just Released and Available Now!!  It’s a comprehensive look at virtually all of the various kinds of employee benefits offered in community banks today. As expected, the Fed increased short-term rates 25bp, for the 17th consecutive time. The tone of the Fed was rather benign as they stated that recent indicators show a general “cooling of the housing market” and that inflation expectations remains “contained”.  Read more in this week's Baker Weekly.

After four decades of outstanding service to the banking industry, the Assemblies for Bank Directors continue to set the standard in director education.  John Davis - a director from Colorado - described the program as, "By far, the most comprehensive and informative program for directors I have ever seen."  That, clearly, is what the Assemblies for Bank Directors aim to provide:  a unique, first-class program that exceeds your expectations.
This fall - September 1-4 - we've assembled another winner:  "The Board's Path to Peak Performance."  The setting is spectacular:  the Coeur d'Alene Resort in Idaho, one of the most picturesque golf resorts in the U.S.  The speakers are top-notch:

* Strategist Cass Bettinger on "10 Things Boards Don't Spend Enough Time On"
* Asset/Liability Expert George Darling on "Balance Sheet Management"
* Consultant Keith Hughey on "Building a Highly Effective Bank Board Team"
* Attorney John Podvin on "The Directors Regulatory Update"
* An Assemblies exclusive - the Disney Institute will share customer service strategies that every community bank can master - and profit by.

The Assemblies are a nationally recognized source for directors' continuing education, offering a program highly praised by regulatory authorities.  We hope you can join your fellow directors throughout the U.S. for this outstanding Assembly.  You can download a brochure or register on-line - or call us at 214.768.2991 for a brochure.  You can also e-mail us at abd@swgsb.org.
Although Southwest Airlines flies into Spokane, WA, and makes travel to Coeur d'Alene easy, we encourage you to book your flights now as the New York Times reports that - this summer - airline travel will be especially robust.
     See you there!
