The 80th Texas Legislature is now "in the books".  We are most pleased to report that HB 3928, the margins tax technical corrections bill with our critically important apportionment language, was approved by both houses on Saturday.  This is a significant victory for community banking, and your overwhelming responses to our "calls to action" very definitely made a difference.
We additionally are pleased to report that once again, the entirety of IBAT's proactive legislative agenda (ILC branch restrictions, local government conflicts of interest and registered agent) has passed and late last week the Governor signed these bills into law.
Further information is available in the most recent IBAT Capitol Report.

FREE Legislative Wrap-up Webinar
We are again pleased to offer a FREE web-based teleconference program to inform you and your staff of significant changes affecting your business.
Karen Neeley and Steve Scurlock will provide a fast-paced, lively discussion of what passed, what didn't and how your bank will be impacted.  The program will cover the changes to the tax bill, home equity lending, privacy and identity theft issues, commerce and banking limitations, mortgage fraud, tax lien lender activities, numerous operational and lending initiatives and provide some "inside baseball" observations on one of the more unique sessions in some time.

This year we're excited to present Chris  Gardner, author of "The Pursuit of Happyness."  Gardner is the head of his own brokerage firm now, but just 20 years ago he was homeless, carried all his possessions on his back, and lived – on occasion – in a bathroom at a Bay Area Rapid Transit station in Oakland, California.  A true testament to the perseverance it takes to make it from “rags-to-riches,” Gardner tells his story of overcoming obstacles, “breaking cycles,” and the motivation it takes to make your own success.

Question:  Our HR department has questions about staffing up during holidays.  Typically back office or perhaps drive thru tellers will be working while other staff may have a "holiday."  The usual question is whether the individuals working over the holiday/closed period must receive overtime pay (at time and a half or higher).
To find out the answer, click on the flashing question mark.  And you can also check out our searchable database of other frequently asked questions.

Today's healthcare climate is difficult and challenging to understand and navigate.  Robust benefits allow you to recruit and keep great team members but keeping up with the changes in the system and the requirements of each one can be time consuming and expensive.  There are better ways to play the benefits "game" and Jay Kempton, President of the Kempton Group - administrators for Advantage Health Plans Trust - will share the differences available to Texas bankers through your IBAT Services team and USI.  Mark your calendar for AHPT's next webinar on July 17th at 8:30 a.m., look out for your invitation soon.
