Bankers' Code of Ethics Now Available From IBAT
With corporate scandals such as Enron and WorldCom still still echoing through Congress, the Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT) has taken a giant step to protect its members with publication of a Code of Ethics for financial institutions.
IBAT and its General Counsel Karen Neeley have published “Code of Ethics”, a plain language explanation of relevant laws and regulations. As a special bonus, the program includes a CD with the sample policy ready for customizing and a power point for internal training.
Congress responded to the corporate scandals with passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, requiring publicly traded companies to have an internal code of ethics. Banking regulators have shown concern that financial institutions have such a code, as demonstrated by a Financial Letter from the FDIC last year.
The just published “Code of Ethics” will make compliance simple for all banks. The package includes the ethics handbook with explanation of relevant laws and regulations, sample policy, and text of pertinent bulletins, laws and regulations.
The new publication is available through IBAT Services for $149.00 for IBAT members and $199.00 for non-members.
