From Banking Commissioner Randall James
Texas Bankers:
Occasionally there are areas that I would like to communicate with you on - areas and subjects that may lend themselves to a brief email communication of this sort from time to time. IBAT has graciously offered their services to me for these purposes, and this is the first one. This particular communication relates to a monthly survey that we conduct with state bankers in Texas, and I selected this survey as the starting point for occasional items that I hope you will find of interest and use.
The following report is developed from information contained in the most recent Texas Banking Department's BANKER ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS SURVEY. This survey is conducted monthly by the Department and reflects the opinions of executives of state-chartered banks throughout Texas. The banker selection varies but is intended to provide a good cross section of state-chartered banks in Texas, both in size and location. Further, bankers asked to participate in the survey are selected from rural and metropolitan markets alike and each state-chartered bank is sent a survey once each year. The Texas Department of Banking has found the information insightful and helpful and will make the compiled results available to interested parties. The results should not be considered statistically valid in any form. Rather, the results should be taken as a gauge or pulse of industry sentiment and observation.
We greatly appreciate the responses from the bankers contacted for these surveys.
We would like to share this information with you and hope you find it useful. If you have any questions or comments related to this information, please contact Robert (Bob) Bacon at 512-475-1302 or bbacon@banking.state.tx.us.
Thanks, Randall S. James
